Our last inductee spotlight today is Sam Stewart (GHS Class of 1968).  While at GHS, Sam was a four-year member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He earned all-conference honors in both basketball and baseball twice.

After high school, Sam went onto to Parkland Junior College where he played basketball and baseball for two years.  While at Parkland, he was the team MVP as a sophomore. After Parkland, Sam transferred to SIUE where he played baseball for two years.  He was a member of the SIUE team that went to the NCAA College World Series and was also inducted into the SIUE Hall of Fame.

After college, Sam returned to CUSD #7 as a teacher and coach.  He served in a variety of coaching duties including junior high baseball, junior high track, junior high basketball, assistant football (5 years), and varsity basketball (5 years).  However, Sam is best known as being the GHS Baseball coach for 23 years.  He won 11 regionals, guided the 1991 team to the State Elite 8, and won coach of the year.  Sam was a major contributor the GHS Baseball Complex.  Sam was also an assistant at Western Kentucky for two years and worked at the Clemson summer camp for 5 years.
